The Dawg Bones: Georgia vs. Auburn 2022
Robert Beal, Jr. (33)

Dawg Bones OFFENSE: GEORGIA

Georgia’s offense has cemented itself as one of the better units, not only in the SEC, but in the country. With AD Mitchell and Arian Smith returning from injury, the Dawgs are returning their fastest wide receiver and their best pass catcher on the perimeter. Todd Monken, who is one of the top play callers in college football, will certainly be able to open up the playbook even more than he already has. Auburn, on the other hand, has struggled significantly on the offensive side of the football. They have used multiple quarterbacks in TJ Finley and Robby Ashford, and besides an impressive back in Georgia native Tank Bigsby, the Tigers do not have many weapons to overcome an underperforming QB room.

Dawg Bones Defense: GEORGIA

Georgia has reloaded on defense and has been playing an impressive number of wildly talented, young players on a defense that substitutes throughout the game. Malaki Starts and Mykel Williams have earned starting roles, while true freshman like Bear Alexander, Jalon Walker and Daylen Everette are pushing for more playing time. Jalen Carter has yet to play while 100-percent healthy, and All-American Kelee Ringo has somewhat flown under the radar despite shutting down every receiver he has faced this year. The bottom line is that Georgia has one of the best defenses in the nation, while Auburn’s defense has struggled, especially at home against Penn State.

Dawg Bones Special Teams: GEORGIA

The Dawgs have one of the best kickers in the land with Jack Podlesny. He has a very legitimate shot to finish his career with the highest field goal percentage in Georgia history. Anders Carlson is a very consistent kicker for the Tigers and one of the better ones in the SEC. I’m giving Jack the edge here, as he has had more opportunities to kick this year and has made a higher percentage of his kicks.

Dawg Bones Coaching: GEORGIA

Kirby Smart is a man of many mottos, a master motivator, and a proven developer of players. He has a national championship ring and continues to prove why his Georgia Bulldogs are the new standard for college football success. Brian Harsin seems to have a clock ticking on his coaching tenure as his time on the Plains has been a flat-out disaster through just over a year. Auburn paid Gus Malzahn a large sum of money to leave Auburn and they may be looking to do the same with Harsin. Coach Smart has said that this particular coaching staff has the most cohesion of any staff yet during his time at Georgia. The same cannot be said of the Auburn staff given the job security issues that continue to swirl.

Dawg Bones Overall: GEORGIA

As one can assume, Georgia is better than Auburn in every phase of the game. This matchup is set to be played in Athens, where Georgia will look to use their talent advantage on offense, defense, and special teams to make a statement against one of their archrivals. Georgia would love to demonstrate once again why they are worthy of a No. 1 ranking. Stetson Bennett and company should be capable of doing just that.
