UGA track and field junior Keturah Orji was named the USTFCCCA National Women’s Athlete of the Week following the Torrin Lawrence Memorial. Senior Devon Williams and Kendell Williams along with redshirt freshman Kate Hall also earned weekly honors.

Orji, a native of Mount Olive, NJ, complemented her 2017 national weekly indoor honor with an outdoor award following just her first meet of the season. Orji was also named the SEC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for her success.

Devon Williams was named the SEC Men’s Runner of the Week and Kendell Williams was named the Women’s Runner of the Week, marking the second time this year the siblings have each earned an SEC honor on the same week. Kate Hall was also named the Women’s Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive meet.

Orji started her 2017 outdoor season later than most, but the wait was well worth it. She opened with the second-best triple jump mark in collegiate history (46 feet, 11 ½ inches) and took control of the NCAA lead by more than a foot. Her top effort is also the best for an American this year and No. 2 on the current world list. Orji added a wind-aided mark of 46-7.25 on her sixth try, which ranks sixth on that all-time collegiate list.

Orji started her day by also making her season debut in the long jump and traveled 21-8.25 on her second attempt. This vaulted her to sixth on the current NCAA list.

Devon Williams, who grew up in Marietta, Ga., with his sister Kendell, sped to a career-best time of 13.75 to win the 110-meter hurdles at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial a day after graduating from UGA. This time ranks third in UGA history (17th nationally) and is the best for the Bulldogs since 1980. Williams also was the top collegiate finisher (2nd overall) in the long jump with the second-best mark of his career at 25-4.50.

Kendell Williams clocked a season-best time of 13.07 to win the 100m hurdles. Williams jumped to No. 13 on the national list on a day she was recognized as one of the Lady Bulldog seniors competing at the Spec Towns Track for the final time. She finished third in the long jump (behind 2017 Indoor First Team All-Americans Keturah Orji and Kate Hall) with a season-best mark of 20-11.25 as she trains to defend her NCAA heptathlon title.

Hall, a Casco, Maine, native, opened the second home meet of her career with a long jump measuring 21-5.25 to take second place in the Torrin Lawrence Memorial. She also featured a mark of 21-2.75 in her series (which would be in the top 12 nationally) and stands seventh nationally at 21-6 going into the postseason.

The fourth-ranked Georgia men and the seventh-ranked Lady Bulldogs open the SEC Championships in Columbia, SC, on Thursday.
