Georgia continues to get good news on the recruiting front with another commit Tuesday evening. Travon Walker made his decision on which college he will attend the next 3-4 years. Walker chose Georgia on Fox5 at his high school in front of quite a crowd. The 6-5 272 pound defensive lineman is from Upson-Lee High School in Thomaston, Georgia. He marks the 13th addition to the 2019 class and Georgia’s fourth five-star of the class.
According to the latest  247Sports composite rankings, he ranks as the No. 26 overall player, the No. 2 DT and the No. 5 prospect in Georgia. As the No. 2 DT in the country, Walker was a hot commodity. However, Kirby Smart was the first to offer and that appeared to stick with him. Since the beginning of the year, it appeared to be between USC and UGA. Despite the Gamecocks throwing everything at him, the five-star defensive tackle chose to commit to the G and stay home.
During his announcement, Walker said the decision to stay home was the key factor.
“For the simple fact that I wanting to come into a well-built program, “ Walker said. “All of my schools honestly were like that, I just wanted to compete against the best to make me a better player and hopefully one day get to where I want to.”
Walker gives Georgia its 13th commitment for the 2019 class. The Bulldogs now have twice as many five stars as the schools do above them in the rankings. As of now, he doesn’t plan on enrolling early, but that could change after the football season. He plays basketball as well, so it appears he wants to stay and help Upson-Lee get its third state championship in a row.
With Walker’s commitment, Georgia ranks as the No. 4 overall class. The Bulldogs now have four five-stars, eight four-stars, and one three-star. Georgia holds a 94.38 player average, which is the best in the country. Walker’s commitment could be the start of a very good week for Georgia. However, only time will tell how the reveal will go this weekend and who’ll be next.
