Justin Shaffer was the Bulldogs third commitment of the 2017 class and despite his ranking, he could be a huge piece for their future.

This Bulldogs offensive line class is a very talented bunch and Shaffer was the first player to help it take its shape. The coaching staff has focused on getting big bodies for this offensive line class and Shaffer has just the measurables that they are hoping to have. Shaffer is listed as a 6’5″ 356 lbs. offensive guard and he can be compared to Solomon Kindley of last year’s class.
Although Shaffer may be listed as a guard, it would not surprise me in the slightest if they try to move him to center in preparation for the future of this offensive line. Shaffer may not get the hype that many of the other offensive linemen in the Bulldogs 2017 class get, but I believe he could have a very pivotal role for the Bulldogs future.
Shaffer is from Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Georgia and is yet another example of Kirby Smart’s efforts to lock down the Peach State’s borders. Shaffer is not the only commit from Cedar Grove as the Bulldogs also have earned a commitment from his counterpart on the offensive line in Netori Johnson.
Shaffer’s great size will definitely earn him a look from offensive line coach Sam Pittman, but it will be interesting to see where the coaching staff projects him on the offensive line and how he develops at that position.
