A Look at What’s Ahead

Let’s Recap
Georgia won the NCAA Durham Regional last weekend, defeating Coastal Carolina and No. 14 Duke along the way. Mua Williams’ three RBI and a complete game in the circle by Lilli Backes led the Bulldogs to a 6-3 win over Coastal Carolina in comeback fashion after the Chanticleers went up 3-0 in the first. Three Bulldog home runs behind a complete game by Randi Roelling powered Georgia past the Blue Devils on Saturday, 8-2, to advance to the regional final. Duke used a six-run sixth inning to down the Bulldogs on Sunday, 8-1, to force a winner-take-all Game 7. Down 2-1 in the seventh, Hannah Davilla’s pinch-hit leadoff double set up Lyndi Rae Davis to drive in the tying run and force extras. Jaydyn Goodwin’s leadoff home run in the eighth sparked a three-run frame, lifting Georgia to the 5-2 victory and a ticket punched to the Super Regional round.
Goodnight Tabbed Second Team All-SEC
Dallis Goodnight was voted Second Team All-SEC by the league’s head coaches. This is Goodnight’s second-straight Second Team All-SEC honor, earning that status a season ago. The Dacula native led Georgia in SEC play this season with a .344 batting average. Her 19 hits and 12 stolen bases also led the Bulldogs, while her stolen base count led the league in SEC play. She scattered 22 hits, including a pair of doubles and a triple. In the field, Goodnight committed just one error on the season while making highlight reel plays.
Howard Honored on SEC Softball Community Service Team
Destin Howard was appointed to the 2025 SEC Softball Community Service Team. Howard serves as Georgia’s SAAC President for the 2024-25 academic year. Through SAAC and her work with the Georgia Way, she has volunteered her time in various ways throughout her career. Howard has worked with the Georgia Way pajama drive and served as a CCSS sports mentor. She has visited local schools as part of Georgia Reads Day and assisted with the annual Spooky Dawgs event. Howard was a softball mentor at Monroe County High School and has volunteered to serve meals at the local homeless shelter. She is also on the Student-Athlete Advisory Board at UGA. Howard was honored with the Clifford Lewis Leadership Award at the 2025 Dawgs Choice Awards.
Four Bulldogs Selected to NFCA All-South Region Teams
Outfielders Dallis Goodnight and Jaydyn Goodwin have earned spots on the NFCA All-South Region Second Team, while fellow outfielder Sarah Gordon and catcher Marisa Miller were honored with Third Team appointments. Gordon was a 2023 NFCA All-Southeast Region Second Team member as a freshman at Louisville. This is the first NFCA All-Region honor for Goodnight, Goodwin, and Miller.
14 Teams from the SEC Will Compete in the 2025 NCAA Softball Tournament
Fourteen teams from the SEC will compete in the 2025 NCAA Tournament. With 14 teams in the tournament, the SEC reset the NCAA record for most teams from a single conference participating in the championship. The Conference previously set the record back in 2017 with 13 teams and tied that mark three more times in 2018, 2019, and 2024. The SEC also tied its own record from 2018 with nine national seeds for the 2025 NCAA Tournament, including seven of the top eight. A total of nine SEC teams advanced to the Super Regional round, tying an NCAA Tournament record.
