The University of Georgia volleyball team picked up a gritty, five-set victory on Sunday over Mississippi State, 3-2 (24-26, 25-22, 25-23, 25-27, 16-14), behind 29 kills from junior Bianna Muoneke.

Georgia improves to 13-5 on the season and 5-3 in SEC play with its fifth-straight victory.

Fast Facts
Muoneke’s 29 kills were a career high. Along with a season-high 18 digs, she earned her eighth double-double of the season and second of the weekend. She hit .354 on the outside.
Muoneke was one of five Bulldogs with a double-double on Sunday: redshirt-sophomore libero Makena Lim put up 19 digs and dished out 11 assists, senior outside Estelle Haugen laid down 11 kills with 15 digs, and setters Chloe Elarton (31 assists, 12 digs) and Kaiya Tyson (29 assists, career-high 16 digs).
Sophomore MK Patten and senior Adriana Rhoda each recorded 12 kills in the match.
Georgia’s blocking continued to impress on Sunday with 13 team blocks. Kendal Kemp had six, followed closely by five from Tori Harper. Georgia has recorded 10 or more blocks in 14 of 18 matches and each of the last six matches.
Every set of Sunday’s match was decided by two points, except for three points in the second set. The match featured 45 total ties, and the lead changed 16 times.

KEY QUOTES
Head coach Tom Black

On the overall thoughts for today’s match…
“Super hard-fought match, a lot of grit. I thought there were massive ebbs and flows throughout the match, but the ladies pulled it together. I thought Bianna Muoneke’s competitive will was amazing, so I’m super proud of the girls.”

On Bianna Muoneke’s performance…
“[Bianna Muoneke] just fought like crazy, and she just wasn’t going to die. She had some major, big-time swings for us. That really set the tone. She just made sure we were going to find a way through, so I’m super proud of her.”

On her new career high in kills…
“It’s really exciting, but I could not have done it without Chloe [Elarton] and Kaiya [Tyson]. They put me in a good spot the entire time. Even [Makena Lim] and everyone who was out of system setting put me in great spots. I would not be half the player I am now because of my team. They make me want to play hard every day. Having games like this are always fun, but my teammates make it more.”

Up Next
Georgia is back on the road next weekend for a pair of matches. First, the Bulldogs travel to Nashville, Tennessee, to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores on Friday at 8 p.m. ET. It’s then on to Columbia, Missouri for a showdown with the Missouri Tigers on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
