On Saturday, October 18, the No. 9 Georgia Bulldogs held off the No. 5 Ole Miss Rebels, 43-35, in a back-and-forth contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Quarterback Gunner Stockton opened the scoring with a 36-yard pass, setting up a 51-yard field goal from Peyton Woodring for a 3-0 lead about 4 minutes into the game. Ole Miss responded when quarterback Trinidad Chambliss scrambled left for a 7-yard touchdown, giving the Rebels a 7-3 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Just seconds into the second quarter, Stockton found Lawson Luckie on an 11-yard touchdown pass, giving Georgia a 10-7 lead. Both teams traded scores throughout the half, sending the Bulldogs into halftime trailing 21-20.

The second half saw Ole Miss strike first with Austin Timmons connecting on a 75-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling, extending the Rebels lead to 28-20. Georgia answered quickly as Stockton threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Luckie, his second touchdown of the game, cutting the deficit to 28-26. The Bulldogs went for the two-point conversion, but failed when Stockton was sacked. Ole Miss responded with Chambliss rushing for a 2-yard touchdown to make it 35-26.

Facing a critical 4th-and-1, Stockton delivered a clutch 26-yard pass to Zachariah Branch to keep the drive alive. Nate Frazier followed with a touchdown run, narrowing the score to 35-33 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the final quarter, Stockton found Luckie again for a touchdown, giving him three receiving touchdowns in the game and pushing Georgia ahead 40-35.

Georgia’s defense proved to dominate the fourth quarter, holding Ole Miss without a touchdown as Georgia closed out the win. Woodring sealed the victory with a 42-yard field goal to finish the scoring at 43-35.

Stockton finished 26 of 31 for 289 yards and a career-high four touchdowns, while the Bulldogs also rushed for 221 yards on 49 attempts. Georgia improves to 6-1 and will enjoy a bye week before traveling to Jacksonville to face the rival Florida Gators on Nov. 1 at Everbank Stadium.
