DAWGS ROLL BY CORRALLING THE THUNDERING HERD IN SEASON OPENER!

The Georgia Bulldogs kicked off the 2025 season in commanding fashion, delivering a clinic at Sanford Stadium in their season opener, dismantling the visiting Marshall Thundering Herd 45–7.

It was the kind of performance that felt both thorough and reassuring. Quarterback Gunner Stockton was the unquestioned catalyst, throwing for two touchdowns and adding two more on the ground, rushing for 73 yards. His dual-threat display marked a promising start to his first full season as the team’s starter. Accompanied by a complementary ground game, Dwight Phillips Jr. piled up 60 yards on just five carries and scored a touchdown.

Balanced Offense:

Georgia’s offense tallied 488 total yards, almost equally split between running and passing, a balanced attack that never allowed Marshall’s defense a moment to catch its breath. Stockton looked poised in the pocket, showing good decision-making and chemistry. While the offensive line dealt with injuries to key players like Juan Gaston and Micah Morris, backup linemen, particularly Bo Hughley, stepped up to fill the gaps, allowing the offense to continue moving the chains efficiently.

Defensive Dominance:

Defensively, the Bulldogs were equally imposing. Georgia held Marshall to just 207 total yards and limited them to a miserable 3 of 15 on third-down conversions—only 20% efficiency. While most of Marshall’s limited production came against Georgia’s reserves in the second half, the starting defense set the tone early. Tackling was noticeably sharper, a welcome shift after the struggles Georgia faced in that area last year.

Streaks and Stability:

By posting this win, Georgia extended its home winning streak to 32 consecutive games—the longest active streak in the FBS. Coach Kirby Smart praised the team’s execution of fundamentals—basic but impactful. He highlighted the steadiness of the performance, especially considering the injury concerns up front. Smart also emphasized the leadership within the locker room, noting that “this group doesn’t need to be reminded of the standard—they live it.”

It was a textbook opener: balanced offense, disciplined defense, and excellent execution of the basics. The Bulldogs looked locked in from the first whistle, and if this is the foundation Georgia builds on, their SEC campaign looks very promising.
