Stats That Matter: Georgia 45 – Marshall 7

1 – First Down in the First Half for Marshall

The Marshall Thundering Herd found it nearly impossible to move the ball against Georgia’s suffocating defense. In the entire first half, Marshall managed just one first down, a testament to the Bulldogs’ dominance at the line of scrimmage and in the secondary. Georgia’s defensive line, coached by Tray Scott, consistently collapsed the pocket and controlled the run lanes, leaving Marshall scrambling for answers. Linebackers and defensive backs swarmed to every ball carrier, minimizing opportunities for big plays. Marshall’s inability to establish any rhythm kept the Bulldogs in a position to rotate players and preserve depth while still maintaining a commanding lead.

5 – Different Bulldogs Scored Touchdowns

Georgia’s balanced offense showed its depth, with five different players scoring in the season opener. Quarterback Gunner Stockton rushed for two touchdowns and threw for two more, while Dwight Phillips Jr. opened the scoring with a 17-yard rushing touchdown. Zachariah Branch also added a rushing TD. On the receiving side, Elyiss Williams scored as well, while London Humphreys hauled in a 2-yard TD from Stockton. The variety of scorers kept Marshall’s defense off balance and highlighted Georgia’s depth at every position, showing that the Bulldogs can make plays from multiple angles throughout the season.

23 yard touchdown for Elyiss Williams from Ryan Puglisi

Even with backup quarterback Ryan Puglisi taking snaps, Georgia’s offensive efficiency did not waver. Puglisi connected with Elyiss Williams on a 23-yard touchdown pass, showing that the Bulldogs’ depth at the quarterback position is as strong as their skill positions. This play underlined the importance of preparedness across the roster; every player knows their role and is ready to contribute at a high level. Williams showcased his speed and route-running ability, separating from defenders to create a clean window for the throw. This touchdown was a clear reminder that Georgia’s offensive system allows for flexibility without compromising effectiveness, maintaining pressure on opponents regardless of who is under center.

32 Straight Wins at Home

Georgia continued its incredible streak of dominance at Sanford Stadium, pushing the record to 32 straight wins at home. Playing at home has become a significant advantage for the Bulldogs, with the team feeding off the energy of the crowd while opponents struggle to gain momentum. The streak underscores not only talent but also consistency, coaching, and preparation. Maintaining a home winning streak of this magnitude requires both focus and discipline, as each game presents unique challenges from conference and non-conference opponents alike. Georgia’s ability to perform reliably at home sends a message to the SEC and the nation: Sanford Stadium remains one of the toughest places to play in college football.

95 Yards for Zachariah Branch

Running back Zachariah Branch carried the offensive load with power and precision, finishing the day with 95 rushing yards. His ability to consistently gain positive yardage helped Georgia sustain drives and control the clock. Branch’s vision and patience in finding running lanes, combined with explosive speed, allowed him to move the chains and keep the Bulldogs’ offense balanced. His performance complemented other offensive contributions and forced Marshall to respect the ground game, opening up opportunities for play-action passes and contributing to the team’s overall scoring success. Branch’s 95 yards were not just numbers on the stat sheet–they were momentum-shifting plays that helped define Georgia’s early-season dominance.
