Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo is entering his third season in Athens after returning in 2023. His first year back was successful as the offense was inside the top five nationally in yards per game and points. However, last season did not seem to have as much buzz around the offense. Many fans across Bulldog Nation were critical of Bobo’s playcalling, saying that it lacked aggressiveness and became stale. The season finale against Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl did not help his case as Georgia scored just 10 points and showed very few signs of life offensively. Though the Georgia receivers were known for countless dropped passes throughout the season, it is not all to blame for the Bulldogs’ offensive failures.
While it might be true that Georgia remains as one of the best programs in the country, Bobo and his staff need to step it up offensively. Gunner Stockton will take over as the starter, and key players such as Zachariah Branch and Nate Frazier will look to create big moments for the Bulldogs. A smooth and efficient offensive scheme is needed this season, as the schedule features marquee matchups throughout the year. Otherwise, Georgia could find themselves relying heavily on their defense which is talented but will have a lot of new faces. The Boo-Birds will be out in full force if Bobo and Stockton cannot find a rhythm this year.
In addition to Branch and Frazier, multiple newcomers help the case of the Bulldogs offense. Texas A&M transfer receiver Noah Thomas stands at a whopping 6’5, expanding the size of Georgia’s receiving group alongside 6’4 Colbie Young, who is back for another year. Plus, James Coley picked up multiple big names on the recruiting trail. Talyn Taylor is one of Georgia’s top-ranked class of 2025 receivers. Taylor, a former five-star and No. 6 (according to 247Sports) receiver in the nation has reportedly turned heads in his early time with the program. As a senior, Taylor recorded over 1,600 receiving yards, a promising number for a player in a receiving room that needs to make a jump.
Once again, the Bulldogs lost a significant number of defensive players to the pros, yet with the reputation of a defensive program, many talented names have been waiting their time. With Georgia’s ability to rotate players on this side of the ball, most starters have collegiate experience. The thinnest group, experience-wise, may be the defensive line. On a positive note, the Bulldogs brought in the class of 2025’s No. 1 ranked edge rusher and defensive lineman in Isaiah Gibson and Elijah Griffin. If the offense fails to find their footing in critical situations, Smart’s defense will be called on to keep the Dawgs in the game. Returning players such as KJ Bolden and CJ Allen will likely have to create a strong sense of communication alongside their teammates if the Georgia defense wants to continue to dominate like it has in years past.
Hot Take of the Week:
Our hot take for week one regards a position no one should be surprised about. The quarterback room. Even though we believe Gunner Stockton will be the starter for the 2025 season, we predict he won’t be the only name at the helm making plays in the season opener. Ryan Puglisi has the size and arm talent to make way for competition. Coach Smart recently described Puglisi’s growth in confidence and knowledge in picking up certain protections. Smart referenced one play in a scrimmage where Puglisi missed picking up a certain protection, but knew it right away, which is different from where he was at this point last season. With this being said, we think Stockton and Puglisi will combine for over 400 yards in the air against Marshall. We expect Stockton to take a commanding lead over the Thundering Herd, providing the less-experienced Puglisi with an opportunity to lead multiple successful Bulldog drives.
