THE BIG DOGS SHOWED UP!
Some victories are about individual performances. Others are about toughness, discipline, and a team imposing its will on an opponent. This past Saturday in Atlanta was certainly the latter. When you slap the Gators around all afternoon, it doesn’t happen with a one-man show. It takes an entire team, and last week, the Georgia Bulldogs’ Big Dawgs up front made sure everyone knew who controlled the trenches.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ernest Green III and Gaston Junior – When you rush the football effectively and control the clock, it usually starts with the big boys up front. On Saturday, Georgia’s offensive line slapped the Gators around all afternoon, paving the way for a 28-point Bulldog performance built on a tremendous rushing attack. Our starting tackles, Gaston Junior and Ernest Green III, were outstanding. They controlled the edges, created running lanes, pushed the Bulldogs downfield, and helped the offense dictate the pace of the game. Green, the redshirt senior, has taken Gaston under his wing, helping the sophomore develop into one of the premier tackles in college football. Their combination of experience, strength, and leadership makes them a formidable duo and a major catalyst for Georgia’s strong finish to the season. Make no mistake, Georgia has plenty of offensive talent, but when the Big Dawgs up front don’t dominate, it’s an entirely different ballgame. The entire offensive line deserves recognition for its work, but Green and Gaston are leading the way. These two are setting the standard for what it means to be a Georgia Bulldog up front. Big G and Gaston: Keep paving the way!
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Elijah Griffin and Jordan Hall – Much like the offense, Georgia’s big boys up front on defense showed up ready to play. And they made sure the Florida Gators spent most of Saturday looking for answers. The Bulldog defensive front consistently penetrated Florida’s offensive line, recording an incredible 11 tackles for loss. Georgia’s defenders seemed to spend just as much time in the Florida backfield as the Gators’ own running backs! Elijah Griffin, the outstanding sophomore from Savannah Christian, and Jordan Hall, our version of Nasty Santa, were dominant. Having Hall back in the lineup changes the attitude, physicality, and effectiveness of this Georgia defense. Combine Hall’s size and strength with Griffin’s explosive speed and power, and you’ve got a defensive front capable of creating absolute chaos in an opponent’s backfield. We saw exactly what that looks like this past Saturday. As the Bulldogs march toward the end of the regular season and the College Football Playoff, this defensive front needs to get meaner, tougher, and nastier every single week. And I genuinely believe we’ve got the biggest, nastiest dogs in the country sitting in that locker room. Now go chew some heads off! GO DAWGS!
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Drew Miller – Timing is everything, and sophomore punter Drew Miller couldn’t have stepped up at a better time for the Bulldogs. In his first full season as Georgia’s No. 1 punter, the Iowa native has done an excellent job combining distance and directional control. His next challenge was to become more consistent at pinning opponents inside the 20-yard line while maintaining an impressive net average. Against the Gators, he accomplished both. Miller averaged 49 yards per punt while consistently helping pin the Florida Gators deep in their own territory. That’s the kind of field-position advantage that can make a tremendous difference in a football game. Punting is a craft that takes time to develop, and it’s not always something young players have mastered coming out of high school. But Drew is learning, improving, and showing all the signs of becoming another outstanding punter in Georgia’s long tradition of special-teams excellence. As we head down the final stretch of the season, his ability to flip the field and help control field position will be critical to complementing both our offense and defense. Keep booming them, Drew!
