Former Georgia golfer Sepp Straka is on a tear in the 2025 regular season of the PGA Tour. Straka’s win this past weekend marks his second win on the year and fourth all-time win on Tour. Straka’s win secures the No. 2 spot in the FedEx Cup standings with a season’s winnings north of $8.2 million.

Despite his four wins, Sunday’s first place finish is Straka’s first signature event win. The event’s $20 million purse puts $3.6 million in Straka’s bank account.

Straka started Sunday T1 with Shane Lowry. The eventual champion edged out Lowry and late runs by Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay with a crucial birdie on 15 and three pars to close out the tournament. Lowry and Thomas finished two strokes back at -14 on the tournament.

The story of the weekend, however, might have been Straka’s fill-in caddie Drew Mathers. The two play together at their home course in Birmingham. When Straka’s regular caddie got hurt, he called Mathers who stepped up to the plate in a big way.

“It kind of felt like I was about to hit the first tee shot,” said Mathers. “I’d never experienced being a caddie on this level.”

Mathers has grinded on various mini tours since 2021, battling for chances to qualify and struggling to make enough money to keep his golf dream alive. Most golfer/caddie relationships guarantee 10% of earnings to the caddie. If this is the case between Straka and Mathers, the fill-in caddie will earn $360,000 and have a fighter’s chance to keep his big-swinging dreams alive.

In 22 total events of the 2025 Tour season, Dawgs on Tour have won five events: Harris English at the Farmers Insurance Open, Brian Harman at the Valero Texas Open, Russell Henley at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Sepp Straka at the American Express and now the Truist Championship. That’s good for 22.7% of the Tour tournaments thus far belonging to Bulldogs!

In addition, Straka’s win makes him the second golfer to claim victory at two events in 2025. The only other golfer to do so thus far… Rory McIlroy.

Up next, the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in Charlotte awaits seven Dawgs on Tour competing for a chance to claim the second major of the year.
