Beck’s Stellar Quarterback Performances Highlight Georgia’s Late Season Push

How many times over the past two weeks have you heard Brock Bowers been labeled Carson Beck’s safety blanket? For me, it feels as if it has been said a thousand times. There is no questioning that Georgia would go to the best player in the Country on critical downs, and there was certainly reason to question whether the offensive structure will change when Bowers was ruled out for numerous weeks, but the skepticism has felt far more like criticism.

Carson Beck has done nothing but play exceptional football so far in 2023. While Bulldog fans expressed frustration through slow offensive starts during the first half of the season, Beck still managed to put up great numbers, particularly on clutch downs and in meaningful minutes. The Georgia quarterback has already dealt with serious late game adversity, and Beck’s composure and decision making have allowed him to persevere, leading Georgia to a 8-0 start for the third consecutive year.

While Bowers is currently absent, Ladd McConkey is not. The senior, when healthy, is arguably the best route runner in the SEC, and without a doubt one of the top receiving options in the Country. Against Florida, McConkey tallied 6 receptions for 135 yards and a touchdown, torching the Gators’ secondary. Beck looked extremely comfortable finding number 84 when it mattered most, but as the Bulldogs continue to move forward through a very difficult late season stretch, it shouldn’t come as a shock if the likes of Rara Thomas and Dominic Lovett start to shine.

Missouri presents a formidable challenge this weekend. The Tiger’s have just one SEC loss, and if they emerge victorious in Athens, a trip to Atlanta for the SEC Championship runs through Columbia, Missouri.

However, Carson Beck, once again, has an opportunity to shine on the national stage and prove to the nation that he is not just a piece on this Georgia team, but he is the driving force behind the Bulldogs offensive success. If Missouri continues to play press man coverage against perimeter receivers, Beck could look to exploit favorable matchups. Expect to see the ball in the air Saturday in one of the most exciting matchups of the 2023 season.
