WGOLF: Jenny Bae wins second straight Epson Tour event in a sudden-death playoff

Bae, who was the first- and second-round leader, was tied with Natasha Andrea Ton following Sunday’s final round. Bae was 8-under through 36 holes before closing with a 2-over 73. Oon shot 66 in the third round and tied Bae by playing the back side at 4-under, including back-to-back birdies at No. 17 and No. 18.

Both golfers played the par-4 No. 18 five times in the playoff. After a pair of bogeys on their first time through, both Bae and Oon recorded three consecutive pars before Bae clinched the win with a birdie on the fifth time playing the closing hole.

Last Monday, Bae won a seven-hole playoff at the Hartford HealthCare Women’s Championship to earn her first Epson Tour win in just her second tournament since turning pro following her senior season at Georgia. With that victory, Bae vaulted to No. 23 on the Epson Tour’s 2023 money list. With her win on Sunday, Bae should climb all the way into the top 10.

The top 10 golfers on the Epson Tour’s year-end money list automatically earn promotion to the LPGA Tour in 2024.

Bae enjoyed a record-setting senior season with the Bulldogs. She won the Juli Inkster Award as the nation’s top collegiate golfer in her final season of eligibility. Bae broke Georgia’s single-season records for stroke average and par-or-better rounds. She recorded eight top-5 finishes in 12 tournaments, including wins at the Illini Invitational and NCAA Athens Regional. Bae’s winning scores of 16-under and 13-under at those events are the top-best tournament tallies ever by a Bulldog.
