Owen Pappoe (1)
– Class of 2019 LB –
Grayson vs. Newton, October 20, 2017

Today on Bulldawg Illustrated’s UGA Recruiting Daily, we take a look at some linebacker prospects for 2019.

Georgia signed four linebackers in the 2017 class that include Rome High School’s Adam Anderson, Lee County’s Otis Reese, Spring Valley High School’s Channing Tindall, and Crisp County’s Quay Walker. Georgia also signed hybrid OLB/WDE Azeez Ojulari who could play at OLB. Both Tindall and Walker look like they will play inside and Adam Anderson will most likely play on the outside. Even though Reese is listed as a linebacker, per Kirby Smart’s NSD press conference, it looks like he will get his start in the secondary at safety and also, don’t be surprised if you see him at STAR.

The Dogs currently have 10 linebackers on scholarship and four of those will be seniors this fall; so, I expect the Georgia coaching staff to sign at least four more linebackers in the 2019 class. They have already sent out over 15 offers including top prospects J.D. Bertrand, Nakobe Dean, Ge’mon Eaford, De’Gabriel Floyd, Kevin Harris, Mikel Jones, Jaleel McRae, Owen Pappoe, Anthony Solomon, Donte Starks, and Laiatu Latu. Georgia has also offered athlete Trezmen Marshall who likely will play at ILB at the collegiate level.

Out of that group, the Bulldogs have already gotten a commitment from Blessed Trinity High School’s J.D. Bertrand, who is a 6 foot 1.5, and 216 lbs linebacker prospect. And UGA is in good shape to land Owen Pappoe who is considered one of the top linebackers and one of the top 10 overall prospects for 2019. Let’s take a look at Pappoe and a few other 2019 linebacker prospects.

NEWS & NOTES: Georgia offered Shammond Cooper on Jan. 18th, and the junior out of Trinity Catholic High School from St. Louis, Missouri has already piled up 31 scholarship offers to his name. The Oklahoma Sooners are considered an early favorite here, but Cooper is one of the top five linebacker prospects in the 2019 recruiting class; so, expect this recruiting battle to not be over early.

TREZMEN MARSHALL

CLASS: 2019

POSITION: No. 7 Athlete – MLB, RB

HT, WT: 6 foot 1, and 236 lbs

SCHOOL: Clinch County High School

CITY, STATE: Homerville, GA

STATUS: Undeclared

UGA OFFER: Yes, offered on 06/11/2016.

# OFFERS: 12

NEWS & NOTES: Georgia offered Trezmen Marshall back in June of 2016. The talented Clinch County athlete visited the Bulldogs during the fall for Georgia’s homecoming game versus Missouri. Marshall released a top-three on Dec. 30 that included Alabama, Clemson, and Georgia. The Bulldogs are considered a leader at the moment; although, it is a long way off until NSD 2019.

So what position will Trezmen play in college? While he is a talented running back, he looks to be a playmaker on defense at linebacker and seems to be a natural fit in the middle of the defense at ILB or MLB.

OWEN PAPPOE

strong>CLASS: 2019

POSITION: LB – No. 1 OLB

HT, WT: 6 foot 1, and 211 lbs

SCHOOL: Grayson High School

CITY, STATE: Loganville, GA

STATUS: Undeclared

UGA OFFER: Yes, offered on 06/05/2015.

# OFFERS: 41

NEWS & NOTES: Owen Pappoe has held an offer from UGA for over 2 years now. The Peach State 2019 OLB phenom has also visited Athens a number of times and back last spring on May 4th, he released a top 10 that included UGA, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, FSU, LSU, Nebraska, Ohio State, and Tennessee. This past fall, he narrowed those 10 down to three which include Clemson, Georgia, and Nebraska.

Pappoe was able to visit Georgia during the fall as well and was in Athens for the Sept. 23rd game against Mississippi State and their Oct. 14th homecoming game against Missouri. Georgia has impressed Pappoe this year and should be considered to be the front-runner here. He did recently take an unofficial visit to Tennessee on Jan. 13th.

LAIATU LATU

CLASS: 2019

POSITION: LB – No. 21 OLB

HT, WT: 6 foot 5, and 242 lbs

SCHOOL: Jesuit High School

CITY, STATE: Carmichael, CA

STATUS: Undeclared

UGA OFFER: Yes, UGA offered on Feb. 7th.

# OFFERS: 18

NEWS & NOTES: UGA offered Laiatu Latu on NSD2018, Feb. 7th, and the linebacker prospect out of Carmichael, California has 18 scholarship offers already which also include programs such as Arizona, California, Nebraska, Southern California, UCLA, Vanderbilt, and Washington.

Latu is already 6 foot 5 and 242 lbs; so, he could potentially develop into a SDE, but he would fit in perfectly in that OLB/WDE role that Lorezo Carter and Davin Bellamy have played for the Dogs in Kirby Smart and Mel Tucker’s defense.
