    DawgByte

Because he was replaced with another phenomenal RB, I don’t think we appreciate how good this guy was.  When I first saw his HS tape I thought how in the world is this kid not a 5-star?  That still baffles me.

  2. Greg Poole

The offensive lineman from Florida’s IMG Academy picked UGA over Notre Dame and Florida after not being able to enroll at Ohio State due to an academic issue.

  3. 1mandawgpack

biggityben DawgByte  But in a typical 3 – 4 scheme, you have a huge NG, and 2 DTs.  The OLBs are usually a bit bigger so that they can support the run but can also cover on pass plays.

  4. biggityben

DawgByte I’m a little confused as to our alignments.  I’m assuming Kirby’s based defense is a 3-4, correct?  My understanding of that alignment is there is a NT, a DT on either side of NT, and OLB outside of them.  Where does a DE fit in?  Is the different between a DT and DE alignment only?  Such that, you can have two DT and a DE (instead of a NT?)

  5. RobDawg

Yes RobG, you remember correct and I know I for one was commenting bak then bout how low down Corch was for pushing this guy out. Maybe he does have fragile knees. Hope he can apply his skill set to the game in other ways now

  6. Hobnailboot aka RobG

godawgs678I hate it for the young man. Didn’t Ohio State release him due to medical issues/reasons? Their Dr’s all saw something they didn’t like

  7. Hobnailboot aka RobG

Greg Poole Heck Yeah, spend that money, I’ll bet that keeps Fish Fry from being bought out for even longer now

  8. dawgmum

DawgByte It was nice to see Chubb running in there, too. I hope he comes back strong this year.

  9. Doc R

MMCSDAWG Greg Poole The problem with the Saban method was multiple kids were medically DQ’d, then the very next season were starting for Jax St. or someone—-if they can’t play, they can’t play—–if they can play, they can play

  10. Joe Dawg

MMCSDAWG Joe Dawg 1mandawgpack JaxDawg  He is a very good running back also. Had a bad knee injury as a senior if I remember correctly.

  11. MMCSDAWG

Joe Dawg 1mandawgpack JaxDawg Good catch Joe, dang I forgot about this kid…   Alabama will chew you up and spit you out if you aren’t careful!

  12. Joe Dawg

1mandawgpack JaxDawg  Kids name was Tyren Jones from Walton High School. He is at South Carolina now after a year in JC.

  13. Score Check

    dawgmum MMCSDAWG
Yep it sounds like he wants to player closer to home so his family can more easily watch him.  Its hard to fault him for that.

  14. 1mandawgpack

Greg Poole godawgs678  He was the very large, very raw young man from one of the African countries who has only been playing FB for a very short period of time who came to the CKS camp and was rumored to be receiving an offer.  I can’t remember the name of the town that he calls home, but it’s about 30 miles east of Nashville and is best know for its nurseries (i.e., of the shrub and tree sort and not the “little kid” sort).

  15. 1mandawgpack

MMCSDAWG Colonial Dawg godawgs678  I know you didn’t make the original statement, but that’s nowhere close to being “turned away,” which makes it sound as if everything was in order and we chose not to accept his NLI.

  16. MMCSDAWG

Colonial Dawg godawgs678 MMCSDAWG There were rumors from inside sources that he was missing a required credit for UGA that was not required by some other schools including USC.   So the implication was that he didn’t want to complete this requirement and thus was ineligible to sign with UGA.  Now I am just repeating what I’ve seen or heard no first hand knowledge of such!

  17. Greg Poole

MMCSDAWG That will be the 6th practice – will they be in full pads? I can’t remember how many days they have to go in shells.

  18. 1mandawgpack

Colonial Dawg godawgs678 MMCSDAWG  I think what is being referred to is that he de-committed and there were rumors that he was asked to do so by the former staff but was allowed to “save face” by seeming as if the decision was his alone.  I suppose that there could have been more but it was my understanding that we definitely would have accepted his NLI, but that he surprised many people late in the process by selecting USC.

  19. Colonial Dawg

godawgs678 MMCSDAWG  Wait, you said Price was turned away?  I thought he just chose USC.

  20. MMCSDAWG

Greg Poole MMCSDAWG Yeah I remember those Medical Gray shirts! lol…   now that I don’t condone!

  21. Greg Poole

The Georgia football team will hold an open practice at Sanford Stadium when the Bulldogs kick off their 2016 season at the Fan Day celebration on Saturday, August 6.

Georgia’s open practice will be from 2:30-4:30 p.m.  Head coach Kirby Smart and players will then be available for autographs immediately after the practice on the field at approximately 4:45 p.m.  Admission is free.

  22. Greg Poole

MMCSDAWG  When Saban first got to Bama some accused him of offering medicals to kids to get them off the roster for recruiting purposes.

  23. MMCSDAWG

Greg Poole 1mandawgpack Especially those injured on the football field!   Right thing to do!

  24. AlphaDawg

MMCSDAWG 1mandawgpack godawgs678 Rico Johnson is medically redshirting. I would expect him to do the same assuming he stays at UGA

  25. Greg Poole

1mandawgpack Ncaa allowed it because, in my opinion, it would look really bad if schools started tossing out injured kids.

  26. 1mandawgpack

Greg Poole 1mandawgpack  ok – can’t say that I was aware of that fact.  Thanks.

  27. Greg Poole

1mandawgpack Kids who are medically disqualified can immediately go on a medical scholarship and not be counted toward the 85.

  28. 1mandawgpack

godawgs678 MMCSDAWG  With nothing more than a hunch to go by, I’d imagine that this young man will be a very late addition to the class, if at all.  Unlike prior years, we have the luxury of having an almost full class of high quality OL already committed, which allows the staff to be extremely selective in determining who fills that 5th slot.

  29. MMCSDAWG

1mandawgpack MMCSDAWG godawgs678 Actually I’m assuming they are going to honor his scholarship, that why I said I hope he finishes his degree and stays involved with the sport he loves.  However, if he is medically disqualified that does open a spot on the 85 limit, that’s why I predicted the possibility of 6 OL this class.

  30. 1mandawgpack

MMCSDAWG godawgs678  You’re assuming that just because he’s not playing football that UGA is not honoring his scholarship.  Under the previous staff, he for sure would have retained his ‘ship.  Will be interesting to see how CKS handles this situation (with the AD’s blessing, no doubt).

  31. godawgs678

speaking of OL, anything ever come out about the OT from Tennessee who visited two weekends ago who was thinking about committing?

  32. MMCSDAWG

dawgmum godawgs678 Me too!  Sorry to hear this!  Hope the young man finishes his degree and stays involved with the sport he loves!

  33. dawgmum

MMCSDAWG 90% committed. I won’t be surprised if he doesn’t stick, although he did wear a Georgia shirt to his doctor’s appointment today.

  34. Bulldawg36

That’s true. We should have made him pay last year but we let him run around and he would toss up prayer for a TD. We have to do better against mobile QBs in the future

  35. Bulldawg36

Glad he didn’t. Because we brought the best out of the guy. Hope he goes division 2

  36. Greg Poole

In recent years under Richt, a significant drop-off from first- to second-team talent along both lines of scrimmage was noticeable. While it’s still early in the 2017 recruiting cycle, Smart’s 2017 class is shaping up as one of the best in the SEC, which means it would be one of the best in the nation.
An increasing sense of entitlement also seemingly plagued the final years of Richt’s tenure. This is what Smart has to battle first and foremost. He even mentioned it at SEC Media Days: “http://atlanta.cbslocal.com/2016/07/12/georgia-head-coach-kirby-smart-you-are-not-entitled-to-anything-as-a-player-here-at-uga/ here at UGA.”
    http://gridironnow.com/kirby-smart-set-success-georgia/

  37. AlphaDawg

Richmondawg MMCSDAWG AlphaDawg JaxDawg But what if beating them in recruiting, beat them in ATL…..??????

  38. godawgs678

Bulldawg36 Dabo is a lot like Les Miles to me. I’d like to hate them because they coach for opposing teams, but I end up thinking they’re both hilarious at the end of the day.

  39. MMCSDAWG

godawgs678 MMCSDAWG Right…   I was shocked about Price, I expected D. Brown thing and honestly, I’m glad we got M. Carter and T. Clark and believe Carter and even possibly Clark may end up better overall players.  Time will tell!

  40. Bulldawg36

Dabo is all over the sports networks today!!! It makes me want to vomit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  41. MMCSDAWG

JaxDawg Yeah, I thought I remembered he was killed in a single car accident or something.  Terrible situation for him and his family.

  42. Bulldawg36

Can’t wait for the first day of practice! Chuck Dowdle- let’s get it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  43. MMCSDAWG

1mandawgpack JaxDawg Not sure if it’s the same person, but they had a kid named Tenpenny or something like that.

  44. Bulldawg36

Gridiron now predicts UGA will finish 11-1! That’s what I’m talking about baby!!!!!

  45. JaxDawg

That’s true! I was mad about dowdell (sp?) as well and brown but you think that opens a spot for someone else so hey! I’ll survive

  46. godawgs678

MMCSDAWG Now, I will admit, I lost my marbles last year on Signing Day when we only signed 3 OL and Price was turned away. I was HOT. But, that’s what’s fun about following recruiting. The highs and lows are fun as long as you can laugh about em later.

  47. 1mandawgpack

JaxDawg  One of whom was Kamara (now at UT) and another of whom was a highly rated RB out of another Atlanta school (whose name eludes me at the moment), neither of whom ever saw the field.  I know that some (clearly not all) recruits will choose a program based strictly upon the depth chart and the chance for early playing time as opposed to being a less integral part (particularly early in their career) of a team that plays for championships.
In previous years, I’d be very concerned with a young man pledging loyalty to ‘Bama, but with the staff, I think that nothing is final until the ink dries on the NLI as Kirby has shown that he will recruit a kid all the way to signing day.

  48. Richmondawg

MMCSDAWG AlphaDawg JaxDawg if we want to beat them in recruiting, we need to beat them in Atlanta. Period.

  49. godawgs678

If there is one thing I’ve learned in recruiting over the past 10 years I’ve followed it, never get too attached to any prospect. These kids will drive you crazy. Just enjoy the ride. We will get good players. Kirby is an ace recruiter. In Kirby we trust!

  50. Bulldawg36

I hate to say this, but I’m glad he’s gone. Because he had our number! Stupid gators!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  51. JaxDawg

True, remember that one yea they took like 4? Lol didn’t work out so well for most of those guys. They may move people around the roster or commitment list to make room

  52. 1mandawgpack

JaxDawg  I believe that ‘Bama already has 2 highly-ranked RBs recruited, so I doubt seriously that Swift would want to be a 3rd wheel.  While I think that most RBs now acknowledge that 1 other RB in a class is not a bad thing, I would think 2 would be a bit of “too many cooks in the kitchen.”

  53. MMCSDAWG

AlphaDawg MMCSDAWG JaxDawg You trying to get me in trouble! lol!  We are still in the picture and he had some very nice things to say about both UGA and Alabama!

  54. AlphaDawg

MMCSDAWG AlphaDawg JaxDawg Does it say Bama leads or they’re tied at the top with UGA, MMCS?

  55. JaxDawg

Yea I think we need to have a smaller scale dawg night, an actual event for elite players

  56. Bulldawg36

I know, but they did lose to a 3-9 sc team. Plus got ran out of the Staduim by a Baylor team playing a bunch of 3rd stringers. They are a solid team. They will give UGA some problems..especially if Sony isn’t able to go. But it’s basically a home game that UGA should win

  57. MMCSDAWG

AlphaDawg JaxDawg Not nearly as important as those NC rings they have on almost every single finger!

  58. MMCSDAWG

DawgByte Reddawg13 I want US to convert many more 3rd downs…  Here is our season stat from 2015.  UGA was 49/158 on 3rd down for a whopping 31%.  That my friends is unacceptable and the area I am most looking forward to Chaney and company fixing!

  59. JaxDawg

Webb announces Alabama as leader per Rivals, I think Swift may be in same boat. We need another WR and RB. Any chance we can go after Chandler?

  60. MMCSDAWG

Bulldawg36 They were an onside kick away from possibly upsetting Clemson last year in the ACC championship game…  They were undefeated in the ACC.  Now, having said that, I do expect us to beat them and if Chubb and/or Michel are ready I believe 10-14 points is probably the margin of victory!

  61. Bulldawg36

I don’t think it will be a good sign to lose to unc. That would make us 0-4 in our last 4 trips to the dome. Unc is not as good as the Boise st team we faced in 2011. Unless unc is one of the top teams in ACC then I could accept us Losing to them..if they are on the same level as ND, Clemson and FSU..which I don’t think they are but we shall see.

  62. BroDawg

Lucas Rogers dawgmum no, the surprise will come the day after NSD next year when Auburn announces the new head coach ###

  63. BenKellam

dawgmum Another guy whos gonna waste his talent trying to play QB in an offense that doesn’t translate to the NFL.

  64. converted 1981

    Greg Poole
I also like the previous article they wrote.

    http://www.tarheelblog.com/2016/7/22/12251250/unc-tar-heels-football-georgia-preview

    1. Defense
Specifically, rushing defense. It still remains to be seen if Georgia’s stud running back Nick Chubb will be ready for the season opener against the Tar Heels. Chubb started the season off last year with five straight 100 plus yard games before his gruesome injury occurred in week six that sidelined him for the rest of the season.
We also found out recently that Chubb’s replacement last season, Sony Michel, a 1,000 yard back last year, broke his arm and won’t play in the season opener against UNC. The Heels rushing defense ranked 121 out of a possible 127 teams last year, giving up 5.13 yards per carry and 247.4 yard per game. Carolina may face a 3rd string running back, but if Chubb is even close to 100% ready, the Heels could have their hands full on defense.

WHO?  I said WHO says Sony will NOT PLAY?????????

  65. TtownDawg

Greetings dawg fans, too close to the afternoon to say good morning. I hope everyone keeps hydrated during these 100+ degree days. I found out last night that one of the best friends I’ve ever had in my life has stage 4 lung cancer, if anyone cares to, please send up prayers for “crews” I have no doubt that God will know who you are referring to. Thanks my friends, ya’ll have been a blessing to me.

  66. Bulldawg36

Dawg byte…then I wouldn’t expect much from us the rest of year..because we will be facing sec teams that are stronger in the trenches than unc

  67. dsw61

JaxDawg I’ll be surprised if Webb goes to Bama. He’s way more likely to get buried on the depth chart at Bama than at UGA.

  68. dsw61

Greg Poole I’ve been watching some of UNC’s games from last year. If Chubb and Sony were healthy, UNC wouldn’t have a prayer because UGA would dominate time of possession with the run game. I still think UGA can have success running the ball even if Chubb and Sony are limited…and if Chaney were to go with three TEs with Chrowder or Holyfield in the backfield…I think they can easily move the ball with anyone one of the three QBs. I’m part way through watching the 1st half of the UNC-Virginia game and Virginia is just chewing up the clock and they don’t have an elite running game.

  69. Lucas Rogers

JaxDawg Don’t see Swift going there, so if he really wants to play with him then…..

  70. dsw61

Great picture below of Nauta, Lawrence and Eason. I have no idea where he’s going, but I have to believe that UGA being the in state school and running a pro-style system is very attractive to him. The depth chart is also better for him at UGA. It’s also common knowledge that Pittman’s O-Lines have been great at pass protection, and I suspect both Chaney and Pittman are in his ear about that. I think Lawrence has a really good relationship with the Clemson coaching staff, and that Kirby and Chaney have had to play catch up; which is why Lawrence’s recruitment is as close as it is. Most elite QBs like to commit early in order to help build their class; which doesn’t leave a lot of time to play catch up.

  71. MMCSDAWG

DawgByte Bulldawg36 It would depend on how the game went overall.  If we look like we did last year against UF in Jax, I would be VERY concerned, however, if it is a close fought game where a bounce here of there goes the wrong way and we lose 35-34, then I wouldn’t be as concerned.   This team is YOUNG and we have an entirely new offensive and defensive staff with the exception of Sherrer and Rocker.   We are changing our entire offense.  So being a little off might be expected.

Now, I honestly believe we win this game and do so by 10-14 pts.  But, like Greg says, I’m often wrong!

  72. Bulldawg36

Let em go to bama. Once these WR recruits see Eason play well in a game. They will turn some heads!!!!

  73. MMCSDAWG

JaxDawg I believe Webb went to the Alabama event this weekend, so this is bump following the visit…  Long ways to go!

  74. DawgByte

Greg Poole We haven’t really examined it, but how bad/disasterous would a loss be to the Tar Heels? How will the Dawg faithful handle such disappointment?

  75. Greg Poole

North Carolina gets another opportunity to make a statement right off the bat. http://www.tarheelblog.com/2016/7/22/12251250/unc-tar-heels-football-georgia-preview. North Carolina should be in the top 25 when the polls are released, but Georgia should be around the top 10. Already, many are predicting the Bulldogs to stomp the Heels, and it’s probably a fair assessment. UNC hasn’t been able to beat SEC schools lately, and their high-powered offensive has been stymied.
Yet, if the Heels can upset the Bulldogs, it could change everything for the season. Fedora will have one of the best wins of his career, boosting the confidence in a team that will face Duke, Miami, and Florida State all on the road later in the year. They’ll be vaulted closer to the national spotlight, and everyone will begin to talk about how the ACC success is finally translating to big-time wins. If UNC loses in humiliating fashion, though? The Heels will be doomed again to little coverage or notice, the third or fourth best team in a conference not respected for its football.
    http://www.tarheelblog.com/2016/7/25/12266054/unc-tar-heels-football-opening-game-georgia-south-carolina

  76. JaxDawg

Radi reporting that Bama is making a move with Webb and hinting that we may no longer be his leader?

  77. AlphaDawg

Colonial Dawg rugbydawg79 Greg Poole I think they’re using that space for parking. I heard on the news some groups want to keep it and use it for other things

  78. Bulldawg36

Paul fine comb is predicting a unc victory over UGA. I think him making up with Saban warped his brain!

  79. Colonial Dawg

rugbydawg79 Greg Poole What will they do with the GA Dome when the new stadium is finished?  Will it be torn down or will someone else use it?

  80. AlphaDawg

godawgs678 AlphaDawg From what I’ve read he’s most likely not going to come to Athens

  81. MMCSDAWG

godawgs678 This is my personal opinion and not based on any inside knowledge, but based on his film from Juco, he is very raw and shows signs of average to poor technique, if we were going to sign a Juco, that person would have to be someone who could contribute day 1 not a project. again, just my opinion.

  82. Reddawg13

rugbydawg79 Well if we start winning that would surely help, because for a long time now that weekend was not great for the good guys!

  83. rugbydawg79

I disagree Red WLOCP is part of what makes it great to be a Georgia Bulldog, we just need to get back to winning.

  84. Bulldawg36

Preach it fella!!! I want a team that’s gonna bite back!!! Go full speed from whistle to whistle

  85. rugbydawg79

Greg Poole Wow , when is the first game to be played in that stadium ?  Looks like it is almost ready-will they be playing The Peach Bowl there or is it for Falcons only?

  86. Reddawg13

I want a lot less false starts and off sides and delay of game penalties, but I can live with a few un-necessary roughness calls, because I want a take no prisoners attitude! Kick azz til both shoes get shi_ _y!

  87. 1Dawg under God

Yes I am so ready for some Friday night lights and some cool Saturday afternoons in Athens

  88. MMCSDAWG

ed603 MMCSDAWG I thought I was going to die Sat while playing our weekly golf game, I’ve lived here for over 15 years so I’m pretty accustomed to the heat, but this stuff going on right now is brutal!  Stayed my butt inside yesterday!

  89. AlphaDawg

MMCSDAWG AlphaDawg dirtydawgs Probably a recruiting nut like us. haha
MMCS glad you like our chances, that must mean Radi’s update was good. On the otherside, no crystal balls have been changed. UGA’s chances are looking good, but TL is very quiet.

  90. Reddawg13

MMCSDAWG Reddawg13 Greg Poole Count me in on that one! I hate that Jacksonville game anyway! It is Bull_ _ _ _! It is basically a home game for them and away game for us every year!

  91. MMCSDAWG

AlphaDawg dirtydawgs Who is the little guy between Lawrence and Eason?  I like our chances!

  92. MMCSDAWG

Reddawg13 MMCSDAWG Greg Poole honestly based on Spring, I’m very concerned about our kicking game.  I hope that new kid Wasson(?) can kick, because the two in spring weren’t very impressive.

  93. MMCSDAWG

Reddawg13 MMCSDAWG Greg Poole The last two seasons here in Jax were unbearable and the most embarrassed I’ve ever been to be a proud lifetime Dawg.  We’ve had moments of WTF but to allow a PITIFUL UF team with Treon H. as the QB to beat us like a drum 2 years in a row is unacceptable.  (hence the new staff).  Quit coming down here and treating it like a vacation, get out of the WGV and/or Sawgrass and stay your arses on the Northside and practice a Ribault HS.  Get mean and come out of that tunnel ready to kick some butt.

  94. Reddawg13

MMCSDAWG Reddawg13 Greg Poole I threw in Beamer because our special teams need fixing bad.

  95. Greg Poole

Tech scoreboard wanted out so badly that it screamed:
Georgia Tech http://www.myajc.com/news/sports/college/techs-video-board-to-be-replaced-due-to-peculiar-f/nrhzw/ above the south end zone at Bobby Dodd Stadium. The old video board has been emitting a frequency that was disrupting data reception on fans’ mobile phones. The school opted to replace the aging video board rather than only address the signal issue.

    http://businessofcollegesports.com/2016/07/25/college-athletics-construction-roundup-july-2016/

  96. Reddawg13

MMCSDAWG Reddawg13 Greg Poole I am with you my friend. I felt that a lot of times we wasted all spring and summer and wasn’t ready for the first game. And then how many times did we have a week off to prepare for an opponent and then show up flat and unprepared. No more tail between our legs games for me!

  97. MMCSDAWG

Reddawg13 MMCSDAWG Greg Poole Schumann is definitely a huge part Red…  I’ve been beating that drum since we got him.  He is energetic and involved in everything full speed no half arse with him!

  98. MMCSDAWG

Reddawg13 MMCSDAWG Greg Poole That’s all I ask, show up ready to play and don’t make me leave a game in public with my freaking tail between my legs.  I done with that!  GATA and I will accept losses from time to time, but no more embarrassing games where we look like a second or third tier team.

  99. Reddawg13

MMCSDAWG Greg Poole Agreed, I am thinking him and Schuman! With Beamer in the mix too!

  100. Reddawg13

MMCSDAWG Reddawg13 Greg Poole The truck rolled into Athens last week and unloaded many cans of whup AZZ! The first can is for the Tar Heels! There were also some cans for the S&C staff and the coaching staff to open up on the players, cuz we is gunna be ready!

  101. MMCSDAWG

Greg Poole Pittman is one cool dude!  He might seriously be the biggest and most vital addition to our coaching staff outside of Kirby of course!

  102. Reddawg13

Greg Poole That may work in the Pros where not as much teaching, hands on and recruiting are involved. I like where Kirby has taken our staff.

  103. MMCSDAWG

AlphaDawg Greg Poole This is the kinds of idiots I have to live with down here!  I’m leaning more and more toward retiring and getting back to God’s country sooner rather than later!

  104. 1mandawgpack

Greg Poole  I bet there were some groceries eaten at that event.  Good thing he got that huge raise to come to UGA as he likely just spent the majority of it feeding that group.

    22 coaches for 53 players???
“In the 1990’s, we averaged about 15 coaches per staff. By the early 2000’s, we had reached 16. Now, it’s gotten to an unwieldy average of 22 coaches per staff,” Kirwan wrote onhttp://realfootballnetwork.com/2016/07/19/does-staff-size-impact-winning/. “That’s too many people! I spoke with Aaron Glenn, who is now coaching with the Saints. He said the hardest part about coaching is learning to be coached. What he means is, he has to learn the message that the HC and DC want delivered, even if it’s something he doesn’t necessarily agree with. The problem is, the more people you have involved, the harder it is to control that message. …
“Coaching staffs should be smaller. We’re in the age of technology. That fact alone should have made these staffs smaller, not bigger. Computers and digitized film are much faster, more accessible, and easier to manipulate than anything we used to do by hand back in the day.”
Kirwan added an interesting stat: “The five largest coaching staffs in the league (Buffalo, Jacksonville, Cleveland, Baltimore, and Oakland) average 25.4 coaches per staff. Last year, those teams had a combined for a 28-52 record and no playoff appearances. The five smallest staffs (New England, Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Carolina, and Cincinnati) average 18 coaches per staff. Those teams had a combined 59-21 record, and all five of them made the playoffs.”
