Greg is closing in on 15 years writing about and photographing UGA sports. While often wrong and/or out of focus, it has been a long, strange trip full of fun and new friends.

MMCSDAWG Greg Poole The problem with the Saban method was multiple kids were medically DQ’d, then the very next season were starting for Jax St. or someone—-if they can’t play, they can’t play—–if they can play, they can play

  2. Joe Dawg

MMCSDAWG Joe Dawg 1mandawgpack JaxDawg  He is a very good running back also. Had a bad knee injury as a senior if I remember correctly.

  3. MMCSDAWG

Joe Dawg 1mandawgpack JaxDawg Good catch Joe, dang I forgot about this kid…   Alabama will chew you up and spit you out if you aren’t careful!

  4. Joe Dawg

1mandawgpack JaxDawg  Kids name was Tyren Jones from Walton High School. He is at South Carolina now after a year in JC.

Yep it sounds like he wants to player closer to home so his family can more easily watch him.  Its hard to fault him for that.

Greg Poole godawgs678  He was the very large, very raw young man from one of the African countries who has only been playing FB for a very short period of time who came to the CKS camp and was rumored to be receiving an offer.  I can’t remember the name of the town that he calls home, but it’s about 30 miles east of Nashville and is best know for its nurseries (i.e., of the shrub and tree sort and not the “little kid” sort).

MMCSDAWG Colonial Dawg godawgs678  I know you didn’t make the original statement, but that’s nowhere close to being “turned away,” which makes it sound as if everything was in order and we chose not to accept his NLI.

  8. MMCSDAWG

Colonial Dawg godawgs678 MMCSDAWG There were rumors from inside sources that he was missing a required credit for UGA that was not required by some other schools including USC.   So the implication was that he didn’t want to complete this requirement and thus was ineligible to sign with UGA.  Now I am just repeating what I’ve seen or heard no first hand knowledge of such!

  9. Greg Poole

MMCSDAWG That will be the 6th practice – will they be in full pads? I can’t remember how many days they have to go in shells.

  10. 1mandawgpack

Colonial Dawg godawgs678 MMCSDAWG  I think what is being referred to is that he de-committed and there were rumors that he was asked to do so by the former staff but was allowed to “save face” by seeming as if the decision was his alone.  I suppose that there could have been more but it was my understanding that we definitely would have accepted his NLI, but that he surprised many people late in the process by selecting USC.

  11. Colonial Dawg

godawgs678 MMCSDAWG  Wait, you said Price was turned away?  I thought he just chose USC.

  12. MMCSDAWG

Greg Poole MMCSDAWG Yeah I remember those Medical Gray shirts! lol…   now that I don’t condone!

The Georgia football team will hold an open practice at Sanford Stadium when the Bulldogs kick off their 2016 season at the Fan Day celebration on Saturday, August 6.

Georgia’s open practice will be from 2:30-4:30 p.m.  Head coach Kirby Smart and players will then be available for autographs immediately after the practice on the field at approximately 4:45 p.m.  Admission is free.

  14. Greg Poole

MMCSDAWG  When Saban first got to Bama some accused him of offering medicals to kids to get them off the roster for recruiting purposes.

  15. MMCSDAWG

Greg Poole 1mandawgpack Especially those injured on the football field!   Right thing to do!

  16. AlphaDawg

MMCSDAWG 1mandawgpack godawgs678 Rico Johnson is medically redshirting. I would expect him to do the same assuming he stays at UGA

  17. Greg Poole

1mandawgpack Ncaa allowed it because, in my opinion, it would look really bad if schools started tossing out injured kids.

  18. 1mandawgpack

Greg Poole 1mandawgpack  ok – can’t say that I was aware of that fact.  Thanks.

  19. Greg Poole

1mandawgpack Kids who are medically disqualified can immediately go on a medical scholarship and not be counted toward the 85.

  20. 1mandawgpack

godawgs678 MMCSDAWG  With nothing more than a hunch to go by, I’d imagine that this young man will be a very late addition to the class, if at all.  Unlike prior years, we have the luxury of having an almost full class of high quality OL already committed, which allows the staff to be extremely selective in determining who fills that 5th slot.

  21. MMCSDAWG

1mandawgpack MMCSDAWG godawgs678 Actually I’m assuming they are going to honor his scholarship, that why I said I hope he finishes his degree and stays involved with the sport he loves.  However, if he is medically disqualified that does open a spot on the 85 limit, that’s why I predicted the possibility of 6 OL this class.

  22. 1mandawgpack

MMCSDAWG godawgs678  You’re assuming that just because he’s not playing football that UGA is not honoring his scholarship.  Under the previous staff, he for sure would have retained his ‘ship.  Will be interesting to see how CKS handles this situation (with the AD’s blessing, no doubt).

  23. godawgs678

speaking of OL, anything ever come out about the OT from Tennessee who visited two weekends ago who was thinking about committing?

  24. MMCSDAWG

dawgmum godawgs678 Me too!  Sorry to hear this!  Hope the young man finishes his degree and stays involved with the sport he loves!
