SOFTBALL: UGA Secures Tennessee Series With Run-Rule Win

The No. 15 ranked Georgia Bulldogs clinched the series with a huge 12-4 win against the No. 12 ranked Tennessee Vols Sunday afternoon at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens, Georgia.

Sydney Kuma and Lacey Fincher had big games for the Dawgs. Kuma and Fincher both hit two home runs in the game against the Vols. Fincher had four RBIs and Kuma had three RBIs.

 

 

 

 

“Just super proud of the way our team competed. I thought we had a good mindset,” said head coach Tony Baldwin.

Jaiden Fields and Lyndi Rae Davis also delivered plenty of hits for the Georgia team today. Fields had two hits and secured the win in the bottom of the fifth inning with a single that drove in a run to put the run-rule in effect.

Madison Kerpics pitched all five innings in the circle. Kerpics allowed four hits for four runs. Kerpics notched the win against the Vols today.

Tennessee jumped on the board first with a lead-off home run. In the bottom of the inning, Savana Sikes hit a lead-off single. Kuma stepped to the plate and hit a two-run homer to left field. Fincher followed Kuma’s lead with a solo home-run that almost cleared the trees behind the scoreboard to extend Georgia’s lead to 3-1.

In the top of the second, Tennessee scored three runs and hopped in the lead 4-3. Shortly after in the bottom of the inning Kuma sent one to the trees to tie the game. Fields hit a nice double and plated two more runs for Georgia to make it a 6-4 game. Fields came around to score after a hit by Davis to extend the lead to 7-4.

CJ Landrum scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third. Fincher stepped up to the plate and sent one down Milledge to plate three more runs for the Dawgs, widening their lead to 11-4.
In the bottom of the fifth the Dawgs had two on base with Fields at the plate. Fields sent one soaring toward right field to plate Kuma for the win.

Georgia will be on the road for a three-game series against Missouri starting Thursday in Columbia. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
