Nick Wood, a senior on the Georgia men’s tennis team who has helped the Bulldogs to four-straight SEC regular season titles during his career, has been named to the 2016 SEC Community Service Team, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.

The Knoxville, Tennessee, native has been involved in a wide range of community service efforts during his four-year career at the University of Georgia. He was active with the Boys and Girls Clubs and the Special Olympics during his high school days and has added to that list during his time as a Bulldog.

Among other community service initiatives, Wood and the Georgia men’s tennis program partnered with Be The Match last fall in an effort to drive marrow donor registration. Wood also played a pivotal role in Georgia’s tennis clinic that benefited the cancer foundation. Has also volunteered his time to teach lessons to young children in Athens by taking part in UGA’s free tennis clinic last January.

“Nick Wood is a terrific example of what it means to be a Bulldog student-athlete,” head coach Manuel Diaz said. “Not only has he played a pivotal role in helping us to four-straight SEC titles, but he has also used his time here in Athens to give back to the community. This is a tremendous honor and a very deserving accomplishment for Nick.”

Wood and the Bulldogs captured their 39th SEC title this season, finishing with an undefeated league record for the first time since 2007. The senior went a perfect 7-0 in SEC play and finished the regular season with a 12-1 dual-match record in singles.

This week, the Georgia men’s tennis team is gearing up for the 2016 SEC Tournament, which will take place in Columbia, South Carolina. The No. 1 seed Bulldogs begin action on Friday at 2 p.m. ET against the winner of the Ole Miss vs. Alabama contest.
