What a start to the Cecile Canqueteau-Landi and Ryan Roberts co-head coaching era. The GymDogs are 3-3 to open the year, but the hype surrounding the gymnastics program is loud, and a return to the once legendary glory of yesteryears in the Suzanne Yoculan era of 10 NCAA titles seem to be on the horizon.

No story in college gymnastics created as much buzz as Simone Biles visiting Athens for the GymDogs’ home opener against Boise State. The greatest gymnast to ever live paid her respects to her personal coach and friend Canqueteau-Landi by flying in for the Friday matchup, getting a tour of all the UGA athletic facilities and calling the Dawgs ahead of the home meet.

Her Bulldog fandom doesn’t end there as she has gone to Instagram to show her support of the GymDogs watching them from her couch! Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new Bulldog that is a great addition to the red and black faithful!

On the floor, beam, bars and vault the young GymDogs have a few superstars that have burst on the scene in 2025. Lily Smith, the SEC Freshman of the Year in 2024, has started her season off with a bang. Furthermore, a new face in Athens in freshman Harley Tomlin has leapt onto the scene as well.

Tomlin is the daughter of longtime Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. In her GymDog debut on the beam, Harley secured a 9.850, and social media took notice. Her father went as far as saying, she was by far the best athlete in the Tomlin family—high praise from a coach who is surrounded by some of the best athletes in the world every day.

The GymDogs’ wins over Long Island, Boise State and most recently a 196.975-196.575 win over Alabama in the Steg have earned Georgia a No. 11 national ranking. The three losses for Georgia thus far came to No. 11 Denver, No. 5 Missouri and No. 3 Florida. Much like every other sport, the SEC is the most competitive, so it’s a tough slate ahead, but the GymDogs are surely trending in the right direction.

Up next, Georgia travels to No. 12 Auburn on Friday for another league matchup! Then on Valentine’s night, the GymDogs host No. 15 Arkansas! Let’s rock the Steg for these ladies!
