The Diamond Dawgs begin their season right around the corner. With a newly-renovated home, the hype builds…

In the three major national college baseball rankings, the Diamond Dawgs have earned a preseason No. 4 ranking from Perfect Game, a No. 8 ranking from D1Baseball and a No. 11 ranking from Baseball America.

Following the incredible start to the Wes Johnson era in the 2024 campaign, including hosting a regional and super regional, the Diamond Dawgs are receiving all the hype ahead of 2025, but it’s not just national hype this Georgia baseball squad is getting…

Around Athens, we all see every bit of construction on campus daily as students walk to class or full-time residents drive to work. No renovations in the Five Points area are bigger than those at Foley Field. Additions to the third base line and multiple renovations to the batting cages and locker rooms beneath the grandstands are taking place, but the most noticeable changes to the lovely home of Georgia baseball is the new turf field.

After a long offseason of continuous work from the construction crews, the Diamond Dawgs are no longer practicing in the football indoor facility better known as the House of Payne. Yes, Dawg Nation, the Diamond Dawgs are back practicing on Foley Field, and it has never looked better!

It’s a common theme in all sports that the SEC is strong, and it is no different in college baseball. Yet another tough slate of non-conference opponents to open the season followed by league-play weekend series and more non-SEC battles in the middle of the week, this Georgia team has a tough road ahead. Losing players like Golden Spikes Award winner Charlie Condon and senior leader Corey Collins, these Bulldogs have shoes to fill.

Young superstars like Tre Phelps must rise to the occasion and return some of that missing offensive firepower that Condon and Collins brought. In the bullpen, the Diamond Dawgs will be much better suited as Wes Johnson, a former pitching coach in the MLB and for the national champion LSU Tigers, went to the portal and got superstars like Alabama transfer Alton Davis, the lefty reliever.

There is much to be excited about for the Diamond Dawgs, and we can’t wait to see all of Dawg Nation in the newly renovated Foley or on Kudzu Hill come February 20!
