Kalen DeBoer (HC) – DeBoer is entering his second season as the head coach of the Tide after Nick Saban’s retirement in January of 2024. Last season began with a 4-0 start and a win over Georgia, and this year kicked off with an embarrassing loss on the road against Florida State. If DeBoer wants to stay out of the hot seat conversation, downing the Bulldogs on their home turf will go a long way.
Ty Simpson (QB #15) – Following the departure of Jalen Milroe, junior Ty Simpson was named the starter for the Crimson Tide. So far this season, Simpson has been extremely consistent, throwing nine touchdown passes and zero interceptions through their first three games. With Alabama being known for their elite quarterbacks, Simpson could join the conversation if his current form leads to a season-changing win in Athens.
Kevin Riley (RB #28) – Riley has been a solid running back during the absence of Jam Miller, rushing for 120 yards on 23 carries. He has been the leading carrier of the multiple backs Alabama has used this season. With Miller being questionable going into the Georgia game, Riley will need to continue his reliable play and establish a run game for Simpson to rely on.
Ryan Williams (WR #2) – This elite sophomore is the Tide’s most explosive player and arguably the best player in college football. His most memorable highlight in his young career was a 75-yard touchdown catch in the final minutes of last year’s victory over Georgia. Against Wisconsin, Williams had 165 yards and two touchdowns on just five receptions. His deep threat ability will certainly be dialed up all night as Bama tries to pounce on the Georgia secondary that struggled to defend deep passes throughout the Tennessee game.
Germie Bernard (WR #5) – Bernard has been the Tide’s most involved receiver this season. Through their first few games, the senior has 275 yards on 15 receptions and three touchdowns, which are all team highs. With lots of attention being on Williams out wide, keep an eye on Bernard as he tries to has his way against the Georgia secondary.
Deontae Lawson (LB #0) – Lawson leads the Alabama defense with 10 tackles, so expect this veteran linebacker to be impactful all night against the Dawgs. The senior has been with the Tide since 2022 so knows losing to Georgia isn’t in the Bama program’s DNA. Look for him to be in Gunner Stockton’s grill all night as he and his teammates attempt to continue their dominance against the Dawgs.
Bray Hubbard (DB #18) – The junior has two interceptions on the year, along with eight tackles. Though Stockton has not yet shown signs of having a turnover problem, breaking up passes and forcing some turnovers in the secondary will be a must if the Tide hope to end Georgia’s amazing home winning streak.
The first three MVP Awards of the Super Bowl went to Alabama quarterbacks: Bart Starr of the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowls I and II, and Joe Namath of the Jets in Super Bowl III.
One of Alabama’s greatest football All-American players is NFL Hall of Famer Ozzie Newsome, All-Pro tight end for the Cleveland Browns and later one of the top executives in the league.
In 1983, Alabama first baseman, Dave Magadan, had one of the greatest seasons in college baseball history, batting an SEC record.525 for the Tide, who were runners-up at the College World Series.
