The Georgia softball team is now ranked No. 24 following a 5-2 win against Georgia Tech on April 22. The Lady Bulldogs now stand at 29-17 overall and 6-14 in SEC play.

In a thrilling in-state rivalry match-up, senior Lilli Backes delivered a standout performance to lead the Bulldogs to victory. Backes allowed just two runs on six hits, striking out eight and walking two. The win over Georgia Tech was key in securing Georgia’s spot in the top 25.

The Lady Dawgs’ regular season wraps up this week with a three-game series against Missouri in Columbia. The series begins Thursday, May 1, at 7 p.m.

After wrapping up the regular season, Georgia will host the 2025 SEC Tournament at Jack Turner Stadium, beginning Tuesday, May 6.

The SEC season has been challenging for the Bulldogs with a tough final series against No. 17 Ole Miss. Georgia earned a 6-4 victory in one of the games, thanks in part to another stellar effort from Backes. However, Ole Miss took the series with a 5-3 win in the final game.

Despite the tough stretch, Georgia remains a dangerous team. With key contributors like junior Jaydyn Goodwin, junior Sarah Gordon and senior Dallis Goodnight, the Bulldogs have plenty of firepower. Gordon and Goodnight each lead the offense with 15 multi-hit games while Gordon and Goodwin have the most multi-RBI performances and have combined for nine home runs. With this trio in top form, Georgia is poised to make a serious run in the SEC tournament.

One of Georgia’s biggest strengths this season has been its ability to start strong. 21% of the team’s runs have come in the first inning, and the Bulldogs are 14-3 when leading after the first. With Backes leading from the circle and the G-trio fueling the offense, Georgia has proven they can take control early. They’ll be looking to extend that success through all seven innings come postseason.

After the SEC Tournament wraps up on Saturday, May 10, Georgia will set their sights on the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Regionals will begin Thursday, May 18, as the Bulldogs look to continue their postseason journey.
