Offensive Player
Gunner Stockton – Our Heisman Trophy candidate QB continued his incredible play Saturday against the toughest defense the dogs have faced this year, picking apart the Longhorns at will. Gunner is the real LANDMAN in the state of Texas and Georgia for that matter and the fans in Texas can only wish for a QB to execute like “THE GUNNER.” Stockton was almost mistake-free against the Horns, completing 24-of-29 passes for 4 TDs , 229 yards and 1 int. GS spread the ball around to nine different receivers, which kept the Texas defense in complete confusion most of the night. Gunner showed the newcomers to the SEC what a dual-threat QB could and should do by taking to the ground when needed. Stockton racked up 34 yards on 6 carries capping the night off, for the greatest fans in the country, with a 4-yard TD run with 4:43 remaining in the life of a whipped a steer called ”BEVO”… which – in the great state of Georgia, we call that a “well done steak!” When Gunner is cooking, the BIG DOG IS EATING!
Defensive Player
Demello Jones- the sophomore from Swainsboro High School is coming into his own as an elite defensive back in the SEC. Demello has been demonstrating his athletic ability with great games against Ole Miss and Saturday versus Texas. Jones stands 6-foot-1 in and checks in at 185 pounds, but plays the game with a much bigger presence. His speed is a big advantage for closing quickly on receivers and then ends their attempt at yards after catch with focused physical intentions, which are bad for opponents. My radio partner Jeff ”DA MAN” Dantzler loves him some Demello … now he’s got me loving Demello too. As we face Charlotte, DJ will get better and be ready for the biggest of all challenge … the State Championship! The Dogs will need Demello’s focused physical coverage and his continuing development the rest of the way to the top of the mountain. Go #15 GO!
Special Teams Player
Zachariah Branch – If there is one thing I am thankful for leading into the Thanksgiving season is ZB! That’s right – Zachariah Branch is one exciting player. He is built for the special teams and for making plays. Saturday was no different than what Zach is becoming known for… speed and electrifying the crowd! Special teams was ZB’s stage Saturday versus the Longhorns. Texas kicked off the second half trialing 14-3 and Zach returned the kickoff 44 yards and electrified the crowd which played a big part in the ass whopping that would take place. Combine that return w
