First Year Look: Warren Brinson

Over the next couple of weeks, we here at Bulldawg Illustrated are going to be looking at Georgia football’s incoming freshman class of 2020 in a new series called First Year Look. The Bulldogs’ 2020 class features 25 signees that collectively finished as the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, according to 247Sports and Rivals.

All 25 of Georgia’s incoming freshmen have reported to campus before workouts started on June 8. Now, they are prepping for their first preseason camp. Over the past couple of days, Bulldawg Illustrated has taken a look a good portion of the 2020 class, and today we will move on to Warren Brinson.

Per the 247Sports Composite, Brinson is ranked as the No. 308 overall player nationally, No. 31 defensive tackle in the 2020 class, and No. 52 ranked player in Florida. The former four-star prospect committed to the Bulldogs back on June 1, 2019. He then signed with Georgia during the early signing period back in December and enrolled in classes earlier this year. He was one of Georgia’s six incoming early signees.

Brinson is originally from Savannah, Ga. but finished his prep ball at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fl. IMG Academy is arguable one of the best schools in the country for getting prospects ready to enroll in college and it worked well for Brinson. His recruitment was very quiet and not dramatic, which is something that Kirby Smart and his staff life. After he committed to UGA, several schools try to poach him away, but Brinson never took the bait.

Warren Brinson’s Highlights

Brinson has the size and skills of what defensive line coach Tray Scott looks for in a defensive lineman. He’s approximately 6-foot-5 and weights just south of 300 pounds. He’s not as highly rated as some of Georgia’s other signees, but Scott could mold him into the next great UGA defensive lineman. Scott has the ability to churn out guys who have an elite level of athleticism for their sizes. Brinson is also used to such a high level of competition coming out of IMG, and Georgia will continue to provide him with quality competition in practice going up against a great SEC offensive line.

Brinson seems like he could be a very versatile player on the line. We possibly see him lining up at nose tackle, but he’s also athletic to field snaps at the other two positions on the line. The problem is that he will have an uphill battle fighting for playing next season on the line because UGA’s depth is so deep across the board. It’s also going to be also tough keeping fellow signee Jalen Carter off the field as well. If he doesn’t have an immediate impact this season, then fans shouldn’t sweat it because he still has a lot of upside heading into the future. The Bulldogs will also be needed great high-profile guys in 2021 and beyond.
