Over the next couple of weeks, we here at Bulldawg Illustrated are going to be looking at Georgia football’s incoming freshman class of 2020 in a new series called First Year Look. The Bulldogs’ 2020 class features 25 signees that collectively finished as the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, according to 247Sports and Rivals.
All 25 of Georgia’s incoming freshmen have reported to campus before workouts started on June 8. Now, they are prepping for their first preseason camp. Over the past couple of days, Bulldawg Illustrated has taken a look a good portion of the 2020 class, and today we will move on to Nazir Stackhouse.
Per the 247Sports Composite, Stackhouse is ranked the No. 247 overall prospect nationally, the No. 27 ranked defensive tackle, and No. 25 ranked player in Georgia. The 6-foot-4, 306-pound defensive tackle committed to UGA way back on Dec. 2, 2017. That was two years before he even inked his name on paper. While he did take visits to Auburn, Tennessee, and Georgia Tech he never flipped his commitment. He signed with the Bulldogs on the first day of the Early Signing Period.
Nazir is a player that we think is only going to get bigger and stronger as time goes on. He has the potential to excel at the next level because of his size and speed, especially for a big guy. He’s really quick coming out of a three-point stance, and his ability to burst off the line to get into the backfield will allow him to make some big plays. He will more than likely play on the interior part of the defensive line and we view him helping at the nose guard position. He can learn a lot from current nose guard Jordan Davis.
Out of the class of 2020, we think that Jalen Carter is going to make an instant impact on the defensive side of the ball. But, Stackhouse is possibly the next guy up. He is going to be competing with guys like Netori Johnson and Tymon Mitchell for snaps this upcoming season. Even though he has the upside, Stackhouse is going to have to learn a lot in a short period of time. UGA needs depth on the defensive line and we think Stackhouse will help with that over the next three to four years.
