Over the next couple of weeks, we here at Bulldawg Illustrated are going to be looking at Georgia football’s incoming freshman class of 2020 in a new series called First Year Look. The Bulldogs’ 2020 class features 25 signees that collectively finished as the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, according to 247Sports and Rivals.
All 25 of Georgia’s incoming freshmen have reported to campus before workouts started on June 8. Now, they are prepping for their first preseason camp. Over the past couple of days, Bulldawg Illustrated has taken a look a good portion of the 2020 class, and today we will move on to Sedrick Van Pran.
Ranking: The New Orleans native was ranked the No. 59 overall recruit nationally, the No. 1 center, and the No. 3 prospect out of Louisiana.
Van Pran’s Story: Former Bulldogs’ offensive line coach Sam Pittman made Van Pran a top priority, and got him to commit prior to the start of the 2019 season. When Pittman left for Arkansas, Van Pran’s relationship with UGA got a little dicey, but the addition of Matt Luke helped solidify his signature. In just a short time, the two developed a relationship and Van Pran signed with Georgia on National Signing Day. He took visits to Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Alabama, and Florida during his process. The Gators got the last visit before National Signing, but Georgia was able to hold them off.
Scouting Report:
“Big-bodied interior offensive line prospect with requisite height and mass. Still owns enough space to add more bulk if desired. Plays with a consistently wide base. Anchors well and shows encouraging awareness in pass pro. Flashes impressive drive-blocking strength when he gets locked on. Gets to second level with relative ease when needed. Combo blocks with efficiency. Ample experience at center. Multi-sport athlete who has posted quality numbers in shot put, discus, and javelin. Can improve hand placement and punch power. Sometimes gets too far out over his feet. Occasionally more of a leaner than a bender. High-major guard-to-guard prospect with valuable snapping experience. Could become multi-year starter at the Power 5 level who could earn NFL Draft consideration.”

Where he fits: Van Pran is a big physical specimen and was the nation’s top center for a reason. He has the potential to become the next great UGA center, but will need to develop that raw talent this summer under Luke. But we can also see him working at either guard position as well because he’s built more like an interior lineman. He’s very athletic and powerful who possesses great hand and footwork skills.
2020 Impact: As of right now, Georgia is pretty much set when it comes to the three interior line positions, but don’t count Van Pran out. He is way too talented and too competitive. He should be able to adapt to the speed of the college game quickly because of his knowledge for the game. Even though he has his work cut out for him, Van Pran will be in the position to move his way up the depth chart if someone is lacking.
